چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Design of total disc replacement (TDR) prosthesis plays an important role in the long-term clinical performance of these implants. Prodisc-L (Spine Solutions, Inc. Synthes, Paoli, PA, USA), a semi-constrained TDR system, has a ball-and-socket based design; whereas SB Charité III (DePuy Spine, Inc, Raynham, MA, USA) has a theoretically unconstrained articulation which allows the mobile core to slide freely in the A-P direction between two metal endplates during spinal motion. The biomechanical efficacies of these two TDR designs on lumbar spine kinematics and loading transfer have not been fully elucidated. In this study, a finite element (FE) analysis was performed to evaluate the range of motion (ROM) changes and facet load transfer of the lumbar spine following TDR with semi-constrained (Prodisc-L) and unconstrained (Charité III) disc prostheses.

Effect of Artificial Disc Position on Spine Biomechanics in the Cervical Spine: A Finite Element Study

INTRODUCTION Total disc replacement(TDR) has been suggested for surgical method to treat degenerative disc disease of the cervical spine because it decompresses nerves and preserves motion segments. The short-term outcomes of the TDR of cervical spine has been well reported to treat degenerative disc diseases as a motion preservation technique in spite of some clinical controversies such as imp...

Implications of Decompressive Surgical Procedures for Lumbar Spine Stenosis on the Biomechanics of the Adjacent Segment: A Finite Element Analysis

Surgeries for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS) aim at decompressing spinal nerves and relieving symptoms of radiculopathy or myelopathy. Frequently after surgery, stenosis may progress in adjacent spinal segments, but the etiology of adjacent segment degeneration is still unclear. It is hypothesized that surgical approaches for LSS may alter the normal biomechanics of adjacent segments, eventually ...

Stress Analysis of the Human Ligamentous Lumber Spine-From Computer-Assisted Tomography to Finite Element Analysis

Detailed investigation on biomechanics of a complex structure such as the human lumbar spine requires the use of advanced computer-based technique for both the geometrical reconstruction and the stress analysis. In the present study, the computer-assisted tomography (CAT) and finite element method (FEM) are merged to perform detailed three dimensional nonlinear analysis of the human ligamentous...
